Zambia Independence Day: President Hichilema Lays Wreaths with Namibian President During Remembrance Ceremony
Yesterday, President Hakainde Hichilema and the Namibian President, Hage Geingob, paid their respects to those who lost their lives during the fight for Zambian independence.
The ceremony took place yesterday morning with the two leaders laying the wreaths by the freedom statue.
Defence chiefs, international ambassadors, and high commissioners also followed the president in paying their respects.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, there were multiple speeches. These included words from the Zambian Army Chaplain, Brigadier General Henry Matifeyo; The Southern African Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes Executive Director, Boniface Cheembe, and Transparency International Zambia.
All the speeches built on the day's theme of ‘Zambia at 58: promoting inclusiveness towards a sustainable social and economic recovery.’
Additionally, governance activist Wesley Miyanda called on parties to put their differences aside in order to show support for Zambian Independence.
