World Bank Praises President Hichilema

The World Bank has praised President Hakainde Hichilema for taking significant measures to restore the economy.

Eva Valle-Maestro, The World Bank's Executive Director, commended President Hichilema’s ambitious programme, which has included restoring the rule of law and combating corruption.

Ms Valle-Maestro added that the World Bank will be ready to assist Zambia financially as a result of President Hichilema’s progression.

According to ZANIS, Ms Valle-Maestro stated this when World Bank Executive Directors met with President Hakainde Hichilema at State House in Lusaka yesterday.

She said that the team had come to hear and learn from President Hichilema about his aspirations for Zambia and how the World Bank might assist.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema stated that the World Bank has arrived at a vital moment for the country, as the country faces some issues.

The Head of State explained that the government will guarantee that all projects are finished on time and with high quality.

He outlined that with the arrival of the World Bank, the government wants to guarantee that the cost of living for its citizens is reduced, which has been a long-standing concern.

This news follows President Hichilema’s announcement in December of a staff level deal for a three-year, $1.4 billion extended credit facility with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The government expects the formal agreement with the IMF to be finalised in May.

Partnered with the prediction of high growth rates and sustained economic recovery in 2022, the future is look bright for Zambia.
