HH Denies Offering Milingo Immunity, Sets Press Conference For Monday
President Hakainde Hichilema has categorically denied granting immunity against prosecution to former Konkola Copper Mines liquidator Milingo Lungu
In a post on Facebook yesterday, the President wrote that “We have never met or given anyone immunity against prosecution.” He added that he was aware that Zambia had gotten used to the “backdoor way of running public affairs” but that this would not be the case any more.
President Hichilema also announced that he would be holding a press conference on Monday 25th April to address the pressing issues facing Zambia. He emphasised that the government was always working to serve its citizens and not the other way around.
It follows a statement by the Minister of Justice Mulambo Haimbe on Wednesday, in which he also denied that the government cut a deal with Milingo Lungu after an alleged meeting at State House.
Mr Haimbe further took the time to explain that the government was not responsible for the decision by Director of Public Prosecutions Lilian Siyuni to halt proceedings against Mr Lungu. He said that the DPP’s office maintained full independence in its investigations and that the government has no control over who is and is not prosecuted.
