Entrepreneurship Network Hails Zambia-Rwanda MoUs A Success
The business group The Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) has hailed the signing of seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Zambia and Rwanda yesterday as a success.
Edwin Zulu, the managing director of GEN for Zambia, applauded President Hakainde Hichilema for the signing of the agreements as a step towards economic prosperity for the country.
The network stated that the agreements reflect a positive step taken in achieving the Zambian government’s goal of the country becoming the an African hub for agriculture and food production, as well as investment and trade.
The deal has also been described as a policy to generate a knowledge transfer between the two countries. Mr Zulu, stated “Rwanda annually make about 180 million United States Dollars in tea and coffee hence providing a huge opportunity for Zambia to tap knowledge.”
The strategic partnership will also lead to Zambia benefiting from Rwanda’s booming cotton and textile industry as well as its fisheries and livestock development.
Mr Zulu has further stressed the importance in taking steps to develop technology through a learning exchange between the two countries, specifically the creation of an e-Governance strategy which can reduce budget missuses. This will further the government’s programme of stamping out corruption.
Furthermore, through the signing of the MoUs the government has taken key steps in creating professional exchange programs between Rwanda and Zambia with regards to the development of cities. Rwanda is a leader in the creation of the New Cities Development Strategy, which Zambia can learn from and adopt to its own development strategy.
Each MoU offers an opportunity for alliance between the booming Rwandan industry and Zambian development and has been hailed by as key to Zambia’s access into the East African Market.
