Minister Of Youth, Sport And Permanent Secretary Expresses Devotion To Solving Child Development Challenges

Kangwa Chileshe, Minister of Youth, Sport and Permanent Secretary has reiterated his commitment to addressing challenges that restrict child development in Zambia.

 He outlined his commitment to overcoming challenges such as; poverty, child labour, unwanted pregnancies, early marriages and illiteracy rates as the main issues that he wants to address.

 Further, he expressed not just his own commitment, but the full support of the New Dawn government. Shown through the actualisation of the free education policy.

 The announcements came as the Minister spoke at the Le’May Safe Haven school charity event in the capital.

 The Le’May Foundation helps vulnerable school children get back into school.

 The Minister also outlined that the event showed the unifying factor of all Zambians who wish to uphold moral and cultural values.

 He said, “It is my considered view that education is important and acts as an equalizer to the people as it is used as a foundation of fostering socio-economic development of a country.”

The event also saw the Bata firm donate K41,500 to the foundation, with the Managing Director, Benson Okumu, outlining his support for the charity.

The Le’May Foundation Director, Sarah Mupeseni expressed her gratitude. She said, “Everyone that came on board to donate and help in any possible way towards these children’s education did it because they are concerned about their welfare.”

Already 140 children who attend school in the Meanwood area have been identified for support.
