Mining Minister Reiterates Commitment To Revitalising Mining Sector

Paul Kabuswe, Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, has reiterated the government’s commitment to revitalising the mining sector in Zambia to make it more responsive to the needs of the country.

The Minister outlined that Zambia is a major player in the mining sector within Africa and hence the New Dawn government will put in place the most effective policy to ensure that the industry contributes positively to the country’s economic agenda.

The announcement came during a ZANIS interview, in Cape Town, yesterday. He told ZAINS that the government will continue to interact with other players in the industry and encourage investment to benefit the sector.

He outlined that the African Mining Indaba, taking place this week, will place Zambia on a good footing to achieve these goals.

With President Hakainde Hichilema as one of the main speakers, the Indaba is bound to place Zambia in an advantageous position.

Meanwhile, Mr Kabuswe also described optimism for the current reforms being enforced by the New Dawn government.

He said, “As you know the stance that the new dawn administration has taken to revamp the mining sector and make it more viable, this is the platform that will help us get more investors and having President Hichilema as one of the main speakers will put us in a good position to sell our country to the world”

The Mines Minister will also be in attendance at the Indaba and is due to participate in the ministerial symposium. He is also expected to present global solutions to regional challenges and the next steps forward to ensure a successful mining sector.
