President Hichilema Reiterates Commitment to Peace and Using Dialogue To Resolve Issues During Conference With Russian Ambassador

Yesterday, President Hakainde Hichilema outlined his continued commitment to world peace during a speech at State House after being called on by Russian Ambassador to Zambia, Azim Yarakhmedov.

The president said that since the independence of Zambia the country has only used open dialogues to resolve issues with other countries and he will always advocate for peace.

He stated that, “Zambia wishes to cooperate with all nations in the world, in keeping our world peaceful and stable, focusing on development.”

He also thanked Russia for its continued support in hosting Zambian citizens and students within their country.

He said, “We also wish to express our appreciation to the Russian Federation basically for taking care of Zambians living there, including students who are studying in Russia.”

Further, the president reiterated his government’s commitment to economic diplomacy.

Speaking during the conference he said, “We reiterate our new government’s position that a lot of our relationships and foreign policy will be anchored on economic diplomacy, trade, investment and economy.”

The Russian Ambassador reciprocated the notion, explaining that the two countries have long enjoyed good bilateral relations and will look to enhance cooperation in tourism, mining and agriculture.

Following the speech, the two countries held closed door meetings to discuss their mutual interests.
