World Leaders Meet At CHOGM With President Hichilema To Give Speech Tomorrow
The Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting (CHOGM) has started with leaders from all around the world meeting in Rwanda this week to discuss bilateral relations under the theme of 'Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming.'
The Prince of Wales and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwell have arrived in Kigali where they are representing the Queen.
In 2018 the Queen officially announced that Prince Charles will succeed her as Head of the Commonwealth.
The Prince has previously attended CHOGM in Edinburgh (1997), Uganda (2007), Sri Lanka (2013), Malta (2015), and the UK (2018).
However, the visit will represent the first trip to Rwanda made by the couple.
On their first day, the British royals visited the Genocide Memorial, where they saw pictures of the estimated 800,000 victims.
The couple looked deeply moved with Prince Charles saying, “We must ensure it never happens again,” to one official.
Additionally, President Hichilema is due to arrive at the meeting later today following a trip to Belgium to discuss EU trade relations earlier this week.
The president is also due to give a speech tomorrow which will discuss the importance of the Commonwealth Nations coming together to overcome the current economic challenges faced globally.
