Former Heads Of State Are Honoured With Order Of The Eagle For Contributions To Democracy
Former presidents of Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, have been awarded the Order of the Eagle of Zambia for their contributions to democracy.
Yesterday, a special intimate ceremony was held by President Hakainde Hichilema where he awarded the honour to the leaders.
The news was announced through a Government Gazette signed by the acting secretary of the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa.
The former presidents being honoured included; the former President of Liberia, Sirleaf Johnson, former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, and former President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma.
President Hichilema stated that the three former presidents had made outstanding contributions to democracy, both in their own countries and abroad, in pursuit of improving the lives of their people and other Zambians.
Mr Obasnjo said that the honour would serve as an encouragement to do more for Africa.
He stated, “We take this honour as encouragement to do more. Whatever we have done for Africa and for humanity to make you honour us, we assure you we will do more.”
