Ministry Of Education Praised For Recruitment Of Over 30,400 Teachers
The Ministry of Education has now employed nearly 30,500 teachers across the country through the Teaching Service Commission Programme implemented by the New Dawn Government.
ActionAid Zambia (AAZ) has praised the government for the success of the programme with director Nalucha Ziba saying that it is representative of the New Dawn Government’s commitment to free education.
She stated that the number of teachers employed is a major stride towards meeting the pupil-teacher ratio target of 40:1 at primary school and 42:2 In junior secondary schools by this year.
She stated that during the previous government, headed by ex-President Lungu, the education sector had been neglected with not enough teachers being recruited, which compromised the quality of teaching and contributed to high levels of unemployment especially among young people.
The recruitment drive comes after President Hakainde Hichilema and his government were able to make education free at the beginning of the year and have now been able to fill vacancies within schools to ensure a quality teaching environment throughout the country.
