HH Opens Fruit Processing Factory In NW Province

President Hakainde Hichilema officially opened a K130 million fruit processing factory in Mwinilunga, North Western Province yesterday, emphasising his government’s commitment to Zambian business and manufacturing.

The Kalene Hills Fruit Factory is a 100% Zambian-owned business set up with support from the Industrial Development Corporation. Once operational, the plant will process a variety of fruits as well as other products such as beans, groundnuts and tomatoes supplied by small-scale farmers.

Writing on his Facebook page after the visit, the President observed, “This smart investment will contribute to changing the economic face of Mwinilunga, the North Western Province and Zambia at large.”

“Another example of your government working tirelessly to create a more conducive and inclusive business environment,” he added.

Overall, the fruit processing plant, in partnership with over 1,500 small scale farmers, will supply 24,000 tonnes of feedstock per annum. It will provide 150 jobs to local people, as well as supporting over 780 jobs indirectly.

President Hichilema concluded his tour of North Western Province yesterday, after addressing a large crowd in Mwinilunga. There he talked about his government’s delivery record for jobs and business opportunities, as well as plans for further decentralisation of national resources through mechanisms such as the Constituency Development Fund.
