President Hichilema Meets With United Nations General-Secretary

Yesterday, President Hakainde Hichilema met with the United Nations (UN) General-Secretary António Guterres during the UN General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, the two discussed the continuing support between the UN and Zambia. Specifically, the pair discussed sustainable development, economic stability, and rule of law reforms in Zambia.

Mr Guterres outlined his support for Zambia’s national priorities and his backing of their development agenda specifically those relating to climate change.

 Following the meeting, Mr Hichilema took to social media to thank the Secretary-General stating that the pair had also discussed world peace and unity.

The meeting kick-started a range of assemblies that the president took part in.

The president also engaged with the United States Development Finance Corporation to discuss trade investment and the financing of programmes to improve employment opportunities within Zambia. 

Further, he met with Mr Tae-Won Chey, who chairs the SK Group and the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss the possibility of initiating student exchanges between their two countries.

He also met with Heads of State at the UN General Assembly where world leaders discussed global social, economic and political challenges.

Following this, he met with the US Chamber of Commerce’s US-Africa Business Forum to discuss Zambia’s vision for success.

To end the day, President Hichilema met with Zambian Diaspora to exchange ideas with Zambians based in New York.
