Final Day In New York: President Hichilema Meets With US President And USAID

On his final day in New York, President Hakainde Hichilema met with USAID Administrator for Africa, Samantha Power, and attended a dinner with US President and First Lady, Joe and Jill Biden.

 Yesterday morning, President Hichilema held a meeting with Ms Power and her USAID delegation. The meeting was also attended by Zambia’s Dr Monde Muyangwa, USAID Assistant Administrator for Africa.

 During the meeting, the delegation discussed improvements to how the institution could support development in Zambia. Specifically, with regards to poverty alleviation, human capital development, SME development, job creation and investment.

 Further, they also discussed the fight against corruption concerning the need for improved access to information in order to strengthen the capacity for institutions to work effectively.

 The president also met with the CEO of AB InBev, the parent company of Zambia Breweries, Michel Doukeris. During their meeting, they discussed the benefits that can be derived from the beverage industry specifically with regard to the role that farmers can play in the production process.

 Before leaving, the president then met with US President Joe Biden and his wife Dr Jill Biden. Following his successful meetings, the head of state was invited to dinner by his US counterpart. The dinner represents an important step in the US-Zambian partnership.

 After this dinner, President Hichilema and his wife returned to Zambia. As he left he took to his Facebook page to thank the people of Zambia for their continued prayers and support.
