President Hakainde Hichilema Expresses Optimism During Visit To Lesotho
President Hakainde Hichilema expressed optimism during his visit to Lesotho that the country's political stakeholders will come together and implement much-needed reforms.
President Hichilema, also the Chairman of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, emphasised the importance of Lesotho's political leaders prioritizing the interests of its people.
These reforms, initially agreed upon after the 2022 elections, are considered crucial for stabilizing Lesotho and allowing it to focus on its social and economic development.
President Hichilema underlined the significance of the ongoing discussions with various political figures in Lesotho, with the aim of achieving positive outcomes and helping the country move forward. He reiterated SADC's overarching goal of making the region one of the most stable in the world.
During his visit to Lesotho, President Hichilema was accompanied by Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, Chairman of the SADC Council of Elders and former President of Tanzania. They held constructive meetings with key figures in Lesotho, including the Prime Minister and the President of the Senate.
President Hichilema and Dr. Kikwete also engaged in a meaningful conversation with His Majesty King Motlotlehi Letsie III at the Royal Palace in Maseru, focusing on advancing peace and stability within the SADC region.
Upon his return to Zambia, President Hichilema expressed gratitude for the support and prayers of the citizens and emphasized his government's unwavering commitment to advocating for peace and security, both within the country and across the region.
The President's visit to Lesotho highlights the dedication of SADC member states to promoting peace, stability, and political reforms in the region, addressing the urgent needs of neighboring nations.
