Finnish Ambassador: Zambia Is The Rising Star Of Democracy In Africa

The Finnish Ambassador to Zambia, Saana Halinen, has praised Zambia for its strides towards becoming a rising star of democracy in Africa.

Halinen stated that this was the reason Zambia was selected to co-host the second summit of democracy scheduled for March 29th to 30th, 2023, along with the United States, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, and the Republic of Korea.

Halinen urged Zambia to take advantage of the summit by learning best practices from other thriving democracies.

She also highlighted that the lessons learned during the summit through the exchange of ideas would greatly help develop the country's democratic principles.

Additionally, Halinen revealed that the Finnish embassy is organizing a side event on March 31st, which will focus on women's political empowerment.

She noted that the Finnish government is actively involved in organizing the second summit for democracy and looks forward to its success.

Halinen further revealed that a delegation from 21 countries is expected to attend the summit and exchange ideas on how to further promote democracy on the continent.

The summit's theme will be "Free, fair, and transparent elections in Africa."
