UPND Government Commit To Socio-Economic Transformation And Empowerment At Cabinet Round-Table
On March 20th, 2023, Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema convened the 5th Cabinet Meeting of the year to discuss legislative and policy issues.
The meeting resulted in several cabinet resolutions that were announced in a press statement on March 23rd, 2023.
The Cabinet approved the establishment of a Presidential Delivery Unit to accelerate the implementation of priority programs and projects that deliver lasting benefits to Zambians.
The Unit will work closely with all relevant ministries, provinces, and implementation agencies to provide technical support and fast-track the implementation of government programs and projects.
In addition, the cabinet approved three bills for publication and introduction in Parliament, including the Zambia Institute of Valuation Surveyors Bill 2023, the Human Rights Commission Bill 2023, and the National Prosecution Authority (Amendment) Bill 2023.
These bills aim to regulate professional conduct, repeal, and replace outdated acts, and ensure good corporate governance principles are in place.
Furthermore, the cabinet approved three policies, including the Revised National Decentralisation Policy and its Implementation Plan for the period 2023-2027, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy and its Implementation Plan, and the National Infrastructure Policy and its Implementation Plan.
These policies aim to promote a decentralised and democratically elected system of governance, provide a framework to govern the fisheries and aquaculture sector, and provide strategic direction and guidance on the development and maintenance of economic and social infrastructure in a coordinated and sustainable manner.
Overall, the latest Cabinet resolutions aim to promote socio-economic transformation, empowerment of communities, and sustainable development in Zambia.
