Give Credit to New Dawn, Says Independent MP

The independent Member of Parliament for Luangeni and Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Moyo, has addressed critics of Hakainde Hichilema’s UPND government, saying they should give credit where it is due for good governance.

Mr. Moyo said that President Hichilema’s desire to better the lives of the people of Zambia is evident, as is the growing strength of the economy under correct management.

During a Chipata interview with the Zambia News and Information services, Mr. Moyo said that development is plain to see across the nation, in many places where no improvement was evident in the past.

He added that, in the two years the New Dawn party has been in government, hope amongst young people has grown, leading to skills training in all parts of Zambia.

Mr. Moyo said that the government is fulfilling the claims it made in its manifesto prior to the last election, and that poverty is decreasing due to the empowerment of rural communities in particular.

“The Food Security Pack (FSP) is one such program in which a lot of vulnerable but viable households in my constituency are benefitting,” the MP said. He described the FSP as “an important government program that must be commended as it serves all Zambians”.

The Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly also pointed to the Constituency Development Fund (CDF)’s impact, saying that its programmes are driving development in all parts of Zambia.

Mr. Moyo said a number of projects in Luangeni have been assisted by the CDF, including the construction of health centres closer to urban hubs. He recalled that “people in my constituency used to walk long distances to seek medical attention but now services are near the people because of this government’s commitment”.
