SADC Leaders Discuss Peace and Security in Luanda

Heads of State in member nations of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) gathered in Luanda, capital of Angola, this morning, with tackling threats to peace and security on the agenda.

Chaired by the SADC Organ for Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, the meeting’s primary topics were insecurity in the eastern provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Cabo Delgado region of northern Mozambique.

Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema participated in discussions. As the new holder of the Chairmanship of the SADC Troika Organ, Zambia is a key nation in determining security strategies for Southern Africa.

During the meeting, leaders reiterated their unwavering commitment to establishing a peaceful environment, the foundation for economic growth, social development, and improving standards of living.

President Hichilema urged his fellow SADC members to commit to lasting peace and security, and do all they could to limit conflicts in their nations.
