ACC Arrests Council Officials for Corruption
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested two officials from Chipata City Council for corrupt practices involving over K3.5 million.
The arrested officials have been identified as Aaron Kamalondo, the Chipata City Council Town Clerk and Harriet Mwape, the Head of Procurement for Chipata City Council.
Timothy Moono, Head of Corporate Communication at ACC, confirmed the arrests in a statement.
Kamalondo has been charged with one count of wilful failure to comply with applicable procedures or guidelines relating to procurement. Mwape was charged with two counts of the same offences.
Kamalondo failed to follow applicable procedures and guidelines between 12th May and 11th August 2022. He cancelled the procurement process for the supply of a grader and a roller compactor without following standardised cancellation procedures.
Moono said the two have been released on bond and are scheduled to appear in court soon.
