President Hichilema highlights media's role in addressing environmental crisis on World Press Freedom Day
On World Press Freedom Day 2024, President Hakainde Hichilema acknowledged the vital role journalists play in helping to tackle the country's environmental challenges. Under the theme "A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis," the President urged journalists to maintain truthful reporting on the ongoing drought and extreme weather events.
After taking office, President Hichilema’s government prioritised restoring media freedom, demonstrating the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and upholding demarcating freedoms.
The President stated the need for journalists to steer public discourse towards solutions and action, aiming to enhance awareness and understanding of the environmental issues affecting the country.
“Through responsible journalism, we can inspire positive change and collective efforts to safeguard our planet for future generations,” a statement from the President read.
