HH Calls for Enhanced Protection of Nature
On 31st May, President Hakainde Hichilema made a direct address to the nation on Facebook ahead of the Kavango Zambezi Trans Frontier Conservation Area (KAZA) official opening ceremony. It will be attended by a number of Heads of State and government officials.
The statement read, “Fellow Citizens. It is our considered position that we must conserve nature in order for our communities to survive these climatic challenges, that are leading to various catastrophes caused by El Niño, that our country, continent, and the world are currently experiencing.
Climate change is here, and it is real. In view of that, we must all refrain from involving ourselves into activities that would further lead to more difficulties associated with it.
Cutting down trees and other environmentally harmful activities are inimical to our survival as humanity.
All of us must therefore preserve and conserve nature for the continuation of human existence and the betterment of life.”
The President’s words demonstrate an unwavering commitment to tackling the effects of the drought which has hit Zambia, and preparing the country’s infrastructures and industries to be more resilient to future extreme weather disasters.
He ended by saying, “Together, let’s conserve and preserve our environment for a better tomorrow.”
