Independent Broadcasting Authority Director General Found Dead
Guntilla Muleya, the Director General of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has been found dead in Palabana with two bullet wounds.
The Permanent Secretary for Information and Media, Thabo Kawana held an emergency press briefing at Maina Soko at 16:00.
He said that Mr. Muleya had left work at 17:00 on 23 July. “When he wasn’t home at the time that he was usually home, the family got concerned and were calling his mobile phone, which went unanswered.”
Mr. Kawana announced: “Unfortunately, a few hours ago, his body was found, east of Lusaka, with bullet shot wounds. Clearly he was murdered. Police are investigating, and we can assure the nation that we will get to the bottom of this gruesome murder. And all those who were involved in this crime will be brought to book.”
“We pass our utmost sincere condolences to the family, represented here by his elder brother. We pass our sincere condolences and we pledge to the family that we shall get to the bottom of this. Our law enforcement agencies are already on it.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga confirmed that a concerned member of the public had called Woodlands Police Station at approximately 10:30 to report that they had found a body of a deceased male. An identity card found in the pocket of the victim bore the name Guntilla Muleya.
The police have said they will give updates as an when they emerge from the ongoing investigation.
