President HH Calls upon New Government Employees to Restore Public Confidence
President Hakainde Hichilema announced this morning the hiring and swearing in of new appointed government officials to fill vacancies across various ministries. In particular, the President hopes this freshly rejuvenated government bureaucracy will crack down on corruption in Zambia in both the public and private sectors. To this end, he also announced that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been reconstituted to better place it to carry out its responsibilities to the Zambian people.
The ACC’s stated mission is to examine both public and private bodies and uncover any corrupt practices, refer those responsible for prosecution, secure the revision of procedures prone to facilitating corruption, and to liaise with public bodies with the intention of enhancing integrity and a spirit of public service.
President Hichilema stressed to the new anti-corruption officials the importance of thorough investigations before arrests, with a view to restoring public confidence in the organisation, which is under strict instruction to act apolitically and free from government interference.
In a statement today, the President reiterated his message to all new government employees that “national unity is the foundation of our development, and our collective goal is to grow the economy, create jobs, and boost business opportunities for all our people”.
