Shepolopolo U17 Prepares For Namibia

Zambia has intensified preparations for the 2020 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Namibia.

Coach Kangwa Kaluba has summoned 35 girls to camp with the number expected to be trimmed after this week’s drills.

According to a FAZ posting, the technical bench is currently screening the players that have been recommended from the provinces by regional scouts.

Kaluba said that the team will comprise some of the players from the Mauritius 2019 COSAFA bronze-winning side and several new additions.

“We are looking to building a strong team comprising girls from the Mauritius group and some others. It will help increase competition in the squad,” Kaluba said.

Zambia plays Namibia on January 10 in Windhoek before hosting the return match on the weekend of January 24-26 in Lusaka.

The winner will face South Africa in the next round on the weekend of February 20 to March 1.

There will be two more qualifying rounds before the final slots for the FIFA World Cup are decided. The tournament will be held in India in November next year.
