Young Chipolopolo Face SA, Secure AFCON 2021 Slot
Young Chipolopolo will today take on the South African national team as part of the COSAFA Men’s Under-17 Championship. The match is scheduled for 1530 hours at Gelvandale stadium and will be streamed on COSAFA TV.
The tournament sese Zambia, South Africa. Malawi and Angola compete for the two spots at the Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Morocco next year.
Defending champions Zambia have already secured their place in the final which is due to take place on November 29, meaning the team will take one of the AFCON slots. Their qualification was confirmed after beating Malawi 6-2 earlier this week, having already defeated Angola 2-1.
The tournament had to be reformatted to a round-robin basis last week after four teams were kicked out for age cheating. The teams sent home from the competition were from Comoros, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Eswatini.
Zambian coach George Chilufya is keen to secure a third win.
“Having qualified to the both the junior AFCON and the COSAFA finals, we should just make sure that we still maintain the winning record at this tournament,” he stated.
“There is no time to relax, we need to maintain the same discipline and remain focused all the time because we still have a very big task of defending the title and win it with a 100 per cent record,” he continued.
