Napsa Stars: 15 Players Test Positive For Covid-19

15 players at Super League club Napsa Stars have tested positive for Covid-19, the club has confirmed. Four officials have also tested positive for the virus.

Club spokesperson Gwen Chipasula said the nineteen cases were confirmed after a routine check. She said all players and officials have since gone into self-isolation in line with Ministry of Health guidelines.

Ms Chipasula said the club has been in touch with the ministry to ensure that they are closely monitored to avoid spreading the virus further.

The rest of the team is continuing to prepare for upcoming fixtures, with Napsa due to host Buildcon at the Woodlands Stadium on Friday.

The club’s chairman, Greg Chola Nsofu, issued a personal appeal to players and fans to stay safe during the pandemic.

“I would like to make an appeal to our players, the fans and the general football fraternity to adhere to all health measures, including wearing of face masks, social distancing and hand sanitising, among others.”

The outbreak at Napsa is the second highest figure recorded by a Zambian football club after Forest Rangers reported 28 confirmed cases two weeks ago.

Zambia has so far reported over 4,481 Covid-19 cases and 139 deaths.
