Reduce Booze Consumption - Chamanga Urges Upcoming Players

Veteran striker James Chamanga says young players should cut on booze consumption if they are to make it to the top of the game.

Featuring on ZNBC’s Sport program, the 40-year-old Chamanga said getting to the top demanded a lot of personal discipline.

“My advice to young people fighting to get to the top is simple, stop drinking, A lot of them drink a lot, you know beer affects your body and drains some fluids,” he said.

Chamanga who played at four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments topped the top scorers’ charts with 16 goals in the FAZ/MTN Super League.

He was at the 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with his final tournament appearance reaping a gold medal.

Chamanga reiterated his decision not to entertain a national team call up.

“My mind is made, I am 40 years old and I think rather than calling me who will only give one year to the team, I would rather you identify a 15 year old who will give you more than 10 years,” he said.

“We have to focus on building for the future and groom a team that will take us to the World Cup. I have done my part and I am leaving it for young people to step in.”

The veteran striker had stint in South Africa where he also topped the scorers’ charts whilst playing for Moroka Swallows in the 2007/08 season before heading to China.
