Nkole Welcomes FIFA Meeting

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) presidential candidate Joseph Nkole has said he welcomes today’s the meeting between FIFA and the FAZ.

The meeting, which is being held today at 10:00, is expected to address longstanding issues in Zambian football which have plagued the FAZ for the past six months.

It will include representatives from the FAZ, the Ministry of Sports, and the National Sports Council of Zambia.

In a statement released yesterday, Mr Nkole said he hoped the meeting would resolve the difficulties undermining Zambian football for the benefit of fans and players across the country.

Nkole, a former referee, is challenging incumbent Andrew Kamanga and former FAZ vice-president Emmanuel Munaile for leadership of the FAZ.

He added that, if elected, his main priority would be to unify the ‘football family’. Other aims of his presidency include greater parity between female footballers and their male counterparts.

“Our emphasis is bottom-up. We believe the girl-child with football skills should first be in school, college or university,” he said.

He also insisted that existing clubs would be supported in forming affordable leagues and tournaments. Club football must break even, he said.
