Nkana Blow Lead to Draw With Green Eagles, Power Dynamos Make It Back-to-Back Wins
Nkana F.C. squandered a two-goal lead on Sunday, to draw against Green Eagles who mounted a late rally away from home at the Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
The Kitwe giants looked firmly in control of the fixture, courtesy of two penalties by Alex Ngonga in the 33rd minute and Ronald Kampamba in the 48th minute.
But Green Eagles did not give up, despite clearly being second best for much of the game, and manager Aggrey Chiyangi made a couple of inspired changes just after the hour that turned the game in their favour.
Chiyangi sent on Maybin Kalengo and Emmanuel Mukosha up front, and fresh legs proved to be exactly what the Eagles need to regain a footing in the contest.
Shortly after this, the Eagles, who had looked most likely to score from a set piece all afternoon, scored from a corner that was headed in by Derrick Bulaya in the 79th minute.
The visitors then completed their comeback in the 86th minute when Hosea Silwimba guided in Joseph Kanema’s goal-bound effort, tying the scores up at 2-2.
The point takes the Eagles 4th, and makes it five unbeaten games in a row. However, they remain eleven points behind league leaders Green Buffaloes.
Nkana, meanwhile, are 9th on 15 points and have now picked up two successive draws since beating Kafue Celtic 1-0 away in Lusaka on October 30.
Elsewhere in the Super League, defending champions Zesco United rallied to draw 1-1 at home in the Ndola derby against with Forest Rangers, at home in the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zesco’s title defence is faltering somewhat, as they sit 8th on 15 points, a place and one point behind Forest.
The Champions have now gone a month without a league win since they beat Kansanshi Dynamos 4-0 on October 20 in Ndola.
At the other end of the table, Power Dynamos secured an important result on Saturday, beating their hosts Chambisi FC 3-2 to collect back-to-back wins in the FAZ Super League for the first time this season.
Not only was this a second win on the trot for Power, but it also saw them leave the relegation zone. They move from 16th to 12th, with 13 points on the board from 12 games.
Their newly-promoted opponents, meanwhile, remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
