Copper Queens Face Banyana Banyana

The Copper Queens will today face Banyana Banyana in an international friendly.

The team arrived in South Africa on Friday, with Spain-based striker Racheal Nachula earning a late call-up for the fixture. Nachula was signed by Spanish second-tier side Real Zaragoza in 2020. Shanghai forward Barbara Banda is the other foreign player in the squad.

The match will be the seventh meeting between the two sides. The Copper Queens are yet to secure a victory against the South African team, having drawn twice and lost four times, including in the 2019 Cosafa Women’s Cup final. However, the friendly follows a 2-1 win against Chile in November last year. Nachula was responsible for the winning goal on that occasion.

The international friendly has been scheduled as part of preparations for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. Nachula, who is 31, was previously a sprinter and competed in the 400 meter Olympics in Beijing in 2008.
