Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic Trial Postponed
Zambia’s national football team coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, has had his trial for sexual assault in South Africa postponed until August.
Sredojevic was due to attend New Law Court in Gqeberha on the 25 and 26 May however failed to appear.
His attorney explained that issues in obtaining a South African entry visa ment that Micho was unable to travel from Zambia for the hearing.
An official statement from the Eastern Cape’s National Prosecuting Authority said “a letter from the Football Association of Zambia was submitted in court which stated that Sredojevic was unable to attend court due to the challenges in acquiring a South African entry visa.”
The new trial date is 11 and 12 August 2021, with his R10,000 bail being extended to this date.
The charges on Micho come from a 39-year-old South African woman who has said that he groped her whilst she was delivering tea for players and coaching staff on 7 December at the Wolfson Stadium. Micho was attending the Cosafa Under-20 Cup.
Sredojevic denies the charges, telling BBC Sport Africa that they are “baseless accusations intended to unsettle Zambia team that has not conceded goal on this tournament.”
He added that his legal team were dealing with the “character assassination attempt.”
