Chipolopolo End Losing Streak at COSAFA Cup

Chipolopolo have obtained their first win at the COSAFA Cup after beating Botswana 2-1 in their penultimate Group A game on Tuesday afternoon.

The game, which was played at Nelson Mandela Bay in South Africa, was the team’s first win out of three matches played in the tournament. The team had previously been beaten by both Lesotho and Eswatini who beat Zambia 2-1 and 1-0 respectively.

The first goal of their winning match was scored by Shonga in the 20th minute. However, Botswana’s strong second half performance saw them level 1-1 in the 61st minute.

With just 9 minutes left of the game, Mothusi Johnson scored Chipolopolo’s winning goal.

The Zambian national team will play again on Wednesday against Group A leaders South Africa who have already qualified to the semi-finals of the COSAFA Cup.

Chipolopolo are currently placed fourth in their group, although have the same number of points as third placed Botswana.
