Zambian Striker, Patson Daka, looking like the main man for Leicester now
Patson Daka is capable of shouldering the burden of Leicester City's striker role in the coming weeks.
The Zambian attacker was supposed to make his comeback from injury in the now-cancelled Burnley match, and he will almost certainly be in the squad that faces Tottenham and Brighton next week.
With Kelechi Iheanacho in the African Cup of Nations, Nigeria on track to reach the knockout rounds, and Jamie Vardy out until March, Daka will bear more responsibility in the coming games.
Despite Daka's lack of Premier League experience, City boss Brendan Rodgers has seen enough in his performances to believe he can compensate for the loss of Vardy and Iheanacho.
“He’s a player who’s come in with experience,” Rodgers said of the £23m signing from RB Salzburg. “He’s a young player that we will see improve and develop over the coming years but I’ve been delighted with the impact he’s made.”
Rogers continues, “In the European games, he was getting some starts to get his confidence. It’s a new league, so he’s adapting to the style, the intensity and the physicality of the Premier League, but he’s coped really well, and any time he’s played he’s looked really dangerous.”
Daka has made two Premier League starts so far, and he has had an impact in both, setting up Harvey Barnes' goal in the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa and then scoring and assisting in the 4-0 triumph against Newcastle.
