U20s COSAFA Cup Victory for Zambia
On Sunday, Zambia won the 2022 Under-20 men's COSAFA Cup after defeating Mozambique 1-0 in the final.
After a nervous start Zambia took the lead through attacker Kingstone Mutandwa's strike.
This goal proved enough as Zambia's defence held off the reigning champions, Mozambique.
This is the Junior Chipolopolo Boys’ 12th COSAFA victory at the Under-20s level. The team won the cup with a perfect record in the tournament.
This comes just two days after the side qualified for the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations slated for next year in Egypt.
Following their victory in Somholo Stadium, Zambia swept up COSAFA's individual awards as goalkeeper Jeban Tembo was named goalkeeper of the tournament after he kept four clean sheets. Charles Mumba won both man of the match and player of the tournament award.
Speaking after the match, coach Chisi Mbewe said; “This is a great feeling and a glory goes to God. We are doing this for the Zambians we were sent here not just to participate but to compete which we have achieved”.
President Hichilema sent his congratulations to the team via Twitter.
