Philemon Mulala Mauled To Death By Dogs In Home
Philemon Mulala, the former Zambia international player, died following an attack by his own dogs in South Africa.
Reports say that the player was mauled to death by his three dogs in his garden in the North West Province at approximately 3 pm local time on Saturday.
He was later found by his wife and declared dead on the scene.
ESPN reporter, Captain Sam Tselanyane, said that she was unsuspecting to any foul play as the family lived on a busy street which meant that the dogs often barked at passing people and cars.
However, after the home’s electricity was restored (due to load shedding in the country), she was unable to find her husband so went outside to look for him.
Mr Tselanyane then reported that "Upon continuing with her search, the woman saw her husband lying motionless outside in the garden," he concluded. "She then went outside, only to find that the husband was bitten by their dogs."
After her finding, the three dogs were removed from the property by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Condolences for the player have flooded in with FAZ Spokesman Sydney Mungal, saying, "Many who watched him, especially fans of Mufulira Wanderers, have been pouring out their grief.”
Further, “Many remember him from the national team days, where he won Zambia's first major post-independence silverware," he added.
The former Chipolopolo player had an immense football career, being named KK11 after Zambia’s founding president Kenneth Kaunda.
He also lead the Zambian team to victory, winning the East and Central Africa Challenge (CECAFA) Cup in 1984 after scoring twice in the semi-final against Kenya.
