Copper Queens Thrash Comoros and Prepare for Semi-Final

The Copper Queens have secured their place in the semi-finals of the 2024 COSAFA Women’s Championship after a convincing seven-nil win over Comoros.

The Copper Queens will now face Malawi in the penultimate stage of the tournament.

Copper Queens newcomer Fridah Mukoma, who opened the floodgates, bagged a hat-trick with goals in the 6th, 9th and 74th minute.

Ocumba Lubanji, who missed a penalty earlier in the match, compensated with a brace in the second half. Regina Chanda and Charity Mubanga also added their names to the long score sheet.

Copper Queens Coach Florence Mwila is pleased with the win, especially with the standout performances from several new players, who highlighted Friday Mukoma’s hat-trick in her first COSAFA Women’s Championship.

Comoros Head Coach Anissa Maoulida remained positive, saying she will continue building the team, which has improved this year.

Copper Queens captain Margaret Belemu says the team is not intimidated by semi-final opponents Malawi, the defending champions.

“Despite losing to them last year in the finals, the team has prepared adequately for

tomorrow’s game and will ensure they eliminate Malawi’” Belemu continued.

She told ZNBC News that the team knows Malawi’s strengths but will play as a team to close the Scorchers down.

Mwila said the game will be tough but the technical bench has planned for the encounter both technically and tactically.
