FAZ President Recognises Youth Talent
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga has wished the country’s youth well as Youth Week begins.
”Happy Youth Week to our many young people in the game and beyond. We join you in celebrating your special day which falls tomorrow. No doubt football is driven by the passion of the many young people that participate at various levels. At the moment we have the under-15 boys national team in camp preparing for the Double Confrontation U15 (2009) organized by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation from March 18-26. The tournament targets players born in 2009 or after as part of giving young boys an opportunity to kicks tart their careers,” Kamanga writes.
According to Kamanga FAZ has been on the lookout for talent in each of the 10 provinces, working with its technical directorate, the youth representatives and the technical coordinators. He notes that some of the products of previous under-15 projects included players such as Miguel Chaiwa, Josesph Sabobo Banda, Rickson Ng’ambi and Moses Mulenga.
“We have no doubt that the current crop will launch yet another beautiful chapter in our youth football manual. Part of the under-15 boys will make up the under-17 squad that will participate in the Cosafa tournament which is a platform for qualification for the AFCON. In 2023 we had our under-17 and 20 participate in the Africa Cup of Nations although we exited early. Some of the fruits from the U20 AFCON are already making positive waves like Kingstone Mutandwa (Cagliari-Italy), Charles Majapa (Green Buffaloes), Ian Sindaye and Dominic Kanda (Zanaco) among others. All these developments will culminate into a future strong national squad,” he stated.
Kamanga also provided an update on Chipolopolo, indicating that the national team are set to be part of the Four Nations tournament in Malawi which kicks off this weekend.
Meanwhile, he said they were also “keeping an eye on the Copper Queens Olympic Games final round back-to-back preparations. Given that there is no window for friendly games before the April 5 home match against Morocco, we hope that an early camp will help keep the team activated. We are also conscious that the league is still active and we have to try our best not to disrupt the league.”
“There is no stopping the women football revolution that we have set in full motion,” he continued.
