FAZ: Copper Queens Soar on Global Rankings

The Zambia Women’s National Team has climbed five places up to 65th in the latest FIFA world rankings released by FIFA in Zurich Friday morning.

Bruce Mwape’s lasses have been on the rise on the continent and the global stage with a recent debut FIFA World Women Cup appearance adding to their growing reputation.

The Copper Queens jump can be attributed to their unbeaten run in the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers where they beat Ghana 4-3 on aggregate to qualify to the final round of the qualifying phase.

They are now fifth in Africa behind Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco and Ghana. The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on 14 June 2024.

Bruce Mwape’s side will face Morocco over two-legs for a place at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The first leg will be played in Ndola on 5 April and will be followed by the reverse fixture four days later.

At the global ranking stage, leaders Spain have extended their advantage over second placed England. France are third, USA fourth and Germany complete the top five nations in the world.
