Sports Awards Winners Revealed in Last Night’s Ceremony

The 2023 Sports Awards took place last night in Lusaka, where the Sports Council of Zambia honoured the most talented athletes in the country.

Patrick Chinyemba, boxer and Olympic gold medalist, clinched the title of 2023 sportsman of the year, while Beauty Nakazwe, captain of Zambia’s national netball team, secured the title of sportswoman of the year.

The national netball team won the team of the year award, and association President Martha Sichone was voted administrator of the year. The junior golf national team was awarded men’s team of the year.

Lazarous Tembo, coach of the netball team, took home the coach of the year award.

The young sportsman of the year award went to draughts player William Chinzewe.

Charles Mulenga and Velda Siamatonda each won the different abled sportsman and sportswoman of the year award.

Speaking at the awards last night in Lusaka, Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu said the government will continue to invest in sports and thanked the athletes for continuing to inspire national pride.
