Men and Women’s Hockey Teams Qualify for AFCON 2025

Zambia’s men and women’s national hockey teams have both secured medals at the regional qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The men’s team took silver, after losing to Namibia 4-0, while the women’s team won bronze after a 17-0 victory over Eswatini.

The qualifiers took place this week in Harare, Zimbabwe, and featured Namibia, Eswatini and Zimbabwe in addition to Zambia.

The men’s teams were competing for just two slots at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, while three slots were available in the women’s category meaning both of Zambian teams have qualified.

Another highlight for Zambia in the tournament was Carol Nakombe winning top goal scorer, with a total of 14 goals. However, Namibia dominated proceedings, with both sides winning first place and taking home gold medals.

Zambia may face Namibia again in the 2025 AFCON finals, where they will also be up against South Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda.
