AFCON Qualifiers: 3-2 victory for Zambia against Sierra Leone

Zambia’s national men’s football team won its Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier 3-2 against Sierra Leone at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

The home team arrived at the stadium as the clear underdog having lost all five of its previous matches, including a recent 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast.

At the time of kick-off, the Chipolopolo boys were fourth in their qualifying table, trailing Sierra Leone who were placing third.

Kennedy Musonda scored an early goal at the 28th minute by header, but this was soon equalised by Sierra Leone.

After entering half-time at a draw, the Zambian team fought hard in the second half to pull ahead, with Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba and Kings Kangwa scoring two more goals against Sierra Leone’s one.

Overall, Zambia maintained an impressive 60% possession throughout the match. Chipolopolo also had greater ball possession in the box, with 34 touches to Sierra Leone’s 12.
