UPND To Engage China Over Infrastructure Debt Inherited From PF
Charles Milupi, Minister for Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, has said that the UPND is looking to discuss amicable solutions with the Chinese government regarding the infrastructure debt inherited from the PF administration.
Speaking during a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Li Jie, in Lusaka, Mr. Milupi confessed that the incumbent government is struggling with the huge infrastructure debt they have been saddled with.
The majority of this debt is owed to Chinese financers and contractors, and the Minister said that he and the UPND are looking forward to engaging productively with China with a view to a win-win solution to this problem.
Mr. Milupi added that this is one example of the commitment of President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration towards strengthening the bilateral relations with China, and ensuring terms of the relationship remain mutually beneficial.
Meanwhile, Mr. Li said Zambia remains one of China’s chief investment destinations in Africa. He assured Mr. Milupi and the UPND that his government would continue to work with the Zambian government to enhance the social and economic development of the country.
