Infrastructure Development Riddled With Corruption – Fube

United Party for National Development (UPND) Alliance member Kelvin Bwalya Fube has said that the infrastructure development which the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) have implemented is covered in corruption.

Speaking in an interview, Fube listed off the means of corruption within the government, including procurement of illegitimate healthcare equipment.

Having been a member of the PF previously, Mr Fube is well aware of the levels of corruption within the ruling party.

“[With infrastructure] the question is how much did it cost? Was that the real price [which citizens are told]? Every infrastructure that the PF can point to, it has a corrupt element to it,” he said.

Mr Fube appears to refer to the lack of transparency with the loans that the Chinese have lent to the PF government. The total amount of these loans is expected to be as high as $3-20 billion, with much of this corruption occurring as part of infrastructure deals which the two counties have.

“Every potion of medicine that was obtained and paid for had a corrupt element to it. Every ambulance that was bought had a corrupt element to it, every fire tender had a corruption element to it. So, you can talk of infrastructure, when you are using that as a camera to see, it is theft of taxpayers money,” he added.

Adding insult to injury, Mr Fube added that, even after being in power for the past five years, President Edgar Lungu has failed to build roads which he promised would be built.

“He cut ribbons two, three years ago saying the dual carriage between Lusaka and Copperbelt will start, there was a ceremony. Has that road been done? That is an economic road. That is a very important road, it hasn’t been done,” Fube added.
