PF Admits To Borrowing Too Much Money
Patriotic Front (PF) national chairperson Samuel Mukupa has admitted that his party have borrowed too much money whilst in power.
Speaking during an interview, Mr Mukupa made several contradictory remarks whereby he moved the blame away from President Lungu and onto the population. He did, however, admit to overspending.
“Yes we have over-borrowed,” he said.
The interview also covered inflation, within which Mr Mukupa provided an attempt to move the blame away from President Edgar Lungu as the cause of inflation and issues associated with it.
“What makes them [citizens] think that the Head of State is the one raising inflation?” he asks. He goes on to say that “it has nothing to do with leadership, it has something to do with the state of development.”
However, Mr Mukupa appears to miss his contradictions during the interview, as the PF’s extensive borrowing is provided with the knowledge that it is utilised to develop the country. Over-borrowing should, therefore, imply vast development.
In spite of this the country remains underdeveloped and in vast debt due to mismanaged government spending. Government debt stands at $12bn however could be far greater than this due to a lack of transparency over the debt owed to China.
