International Donors Commit $1.3 Billion To Zambian Healthcare

Yesterday, countries including the United States, Germany and Japan, alongside international agencies such as the World Bank, GAVI, EU, UN and the Global Fund committed US$1.3 billion to Zambian Healthcare.

Zambia is set to receive $630 million by the end of 2023.

The news was announced by the World Health Organisation’s External Relations Officer Kristina Series whilst making a presentation to the Ministry of Health in Lusaka yesterday.

She explained that the funding will go towards HIV and Aids, sexual and reproductive health and maternal health.

Further, Health Minister Sylvia Masebo, outlined that this would help the ministry in meeting its goal to reduce HIV infections in young people.

She also stated that the funds will help expand malaria prevention with the ministry acting to spray 2.7 million buildings and distribute 11 million mosquito nets. 

The WHO Country Representative for Zambia, Nathan Bakyaita, also praised the government for its high covid-19 vaccination rate but outlined that people should continue to remain vigilant and follow the five rules of covid.
