Zambian CEO Ranked In Top 10 For Global Impact
Zambian businessman Hassan Sachedina, who until 2021 served as the CEO of BioCarbon Partners (BCP) in Lusaka, has been ranked the 8th most socially impactful CEO in the world by experts at sustainable investing firm Big Path Capital.
The MO 100 list, which is compiled by the investment firm each year, seeks to highlight CEOs who are championing a “new vision of capitalism”, whereby every transaction represents an opportunity to create positive outcomes for all stakeholders.
Mr Sachedina stepped down as CEO of BCP at the end of last year, following ten years of leadership. During that time, he built the company into one of the world’s leading forest carbon project developers. It was also the largest forest carbon developer in Africa in terms of hectares.
Over the next ten years, Mr Sachedina has said he wants the company to increase its operations ten-fold, with the aim of becoming the most impactful forest carbon developer globally by 2030.
Speaking on what he felt being an ‘impactful leader’ meant, Mr Sachedina said, “Being an impact leader is about being purposeful beyond yourself. My purpose is to accelerate the planet’s transition to a climate and conservation positive economy. The most important factor is to lead with people: your employees, communities, and stakeholders.”
“A company’s purpose should be to benefit society and the environment, where profit is thus an imperative,” he said.
The 2022 MO 100 Impact Ranking is largely made up of western businesspeople, with American citizens taking up the other nine top spots. Mr Sachedina is therefore blazing a trail not only for Zambians but all Africans as well.
