Vice President to Visit Copperbelt Kapalala Marketeers Following Inferno

Vice President Mutale Nalumango will visit Ndola on Saturday to meet marketeers at Kapalala market following an inferno earlier this week which saw over 1,200 individuals lose their goods and merchandise.

The Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) has reported that Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo has informed marketeers of the Vice President’s visit, adding that Nalumango is due to provide guidelines on how the government intends on handling the matter.

In the meantime, Mr Matambo has said that the government has decided to reallocate the marketeers to a newly constructed market in Kapalala as soon as Saturday this week, with preparations for the move already underway.

In addition to this, the government are making preparations to ensure similar fires do not occur elsewhere by developing more permanent market structures.

However, in spite of the government’s plans to move the marketeers to the new Kapalala market, traders have resolved to remain at their current site, with no plans to move.
