The Lufwanyama Solar Milling Plant Undergoes Major Renovation

The Zambia Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has revitalized operations at the Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) Solar Milling Plant in Lufwanyama district, located in the Copperbelt province.

The solar-powered mill is operated by Kansoka Multi-purpose Cooperative in Kansoka ward and has resumed selling its product at an affordable price.

According to Timothy Kapenda, the Cooperative Chairperson, their mealie-meal product, which retails at K150 per 25-kilogram bag, has garnered demand from nearby districts like Chingola and Kitwe.

Mr. Kapenda expressed gratitude for the K13,000 grant given by the CDF last year, which helped them resume production. He stated that their production capacity has increased to a minimum of 12 bags of mealie-meal per day, which was not the case previously.

Mr. Kapenda acknowledged the government's empowerment fund, which he said has allowed them to stabilize the price of staple food in the area.

When ZANIS checked the milling plant, they found queues of mealie-meal buyers building up. Abraham Banda, who was in line, expressed satisfaction with the affordable mealie-meal available at the solar-powered mill.

In a separate interview, Kansoka ward councillor Lee Mukanzo commended the Kansoka Cooperative for investing CDF funds in a productive project. He urged them to continue working hard to be an example to attract more support from other stakeholders.
