Ten contracts signed for construction of new markets

The government has signed ten contracts for the construction of new markets and the extension of bus stations in four provinces at a cost of K166 million.

The projects earmarked for construction are in Eastern, Southern, Western and North-western provinces.

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary -Administration, MAAMBO HAAMAUNDU, says the contracts for all the earmarked infrastructure projects have been signed, and the construction works are expected to commence soon.

Mr. HAAMAUNDU says the Government desires to modernise Markets and Bus stations to provide a conducive environment for traders and the general public.

He says the Government is delighted that once the targeted Markets and Bus stations are constructed, the new infrastructure will create a more conducive trading environment for marketeers and bus drivers than before.

Mr. HAAMAUNDU said the construction of some of the infrastructure projects has been funded by KfW, a German Development Bank.
