ZESCO Assures Power Stability Starting Wednesday
ZESCO says it will be able to maintain a more reliable and consistent energy supply for the stated hours of load shedding starting Wednesday following the resumption of full operations at Maamba Energy yesterday evening.
Transmission Operations and Trade Director Justin Loongo has also disclosed that ZESCO has secured an assured 400 megawatts of power imports during off-peak and standard times.
However, “For the peak periods, inputs will depend on availability, and at peak times, all countries want to domesticate power,” the ZESCO Director added during a media engagement in Lusaka yesterday.
ZESCO has also resubmitted a fresh application to the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) for an emergency tariff adjustment.
ZESCO’s Head of Business Development, Fitzpatrick Kapepe, said the Utility Company has proposed reducing tariffs for customers that consume below 200 units in its resubmitted application for Emergency tariffs to ERB.
Mr Kapepe said, “We are proposing to reduce tariffs for the first 200 units. Currently, the customer would spend 44 Kwacha on the first 100kwh; we are proposing to the ERB that that customer spend 35 Kwacha, which is a 20% reduction.”
People who use 100-20kwh will see significant reductions in their bills. Mr Kapepe said the objective of reducing the resubmitted emergency tariffs is to give relief to low-income earners.
